Campaign Groups

More and more people are becoming concerned about the lack of focus on child rights and the impact of school accountability systems on the wellbeing of young children in the UK. Here are some of the groups that are asking for a more balanced, transparent and evidence-based approach  that puts the best interests of the child before performance measures, testing and targets.

More than a Score - www.morethanascore.co.uk

More Than a Score is a coalition of organisations and individuals connected to primary education including parents’ groups, academics, trade unions and subject associations. We are working together to call for a change in Government education policy on assessment and accountability. You can read more about members of More Than a Score
here
Better without Baseline - www.betterwithoutbaseline.org.uk
We are an alliance of early years organisations and teaching unions that came together in 2015 to oppose the introduction of Baseline Assessment. Despite almost universal expert opposition to the idea and the fact that it has been tried and failed twice before, the government continues to support the idea.
Keeping Early Years Unique - www.keyu.co.uk
Our facebook page is a forum where members have a shared belief that the child leads the way and it's the role of the adult to make sure that they have the best start possible and the firmest foundations for life

Upstart Scotland - www.upstart.scot
The aims of Upstart are to establish a statutory play-based ‘kindergarten stage’ for Scottish children – based on well-established developmental principles and similar to the systems in Nordic countries – with a recognisably different ethos from primary schooling

Rescue our Schools - www.rescueourschools.co.uk
People are mobilising against needless turmoil in state education. They want schools rooted in their communities, where teachers are trusted as professionals and every child can flourish. Now is the time for families and communities to speak out.

Reclaiming Schools - reclaimingschools.org
Reclaiming Schools was set up to support campaigns for progressive and socially responsible education. Our aim is to make reliable research available to teachers and the wider community.

Charter for Primary Education - primarycharter.wordpress.com
The system of national testing has existed for over 25 years, and has distorted primary education from the start. The current tests, starting 2016 and based on Michael Gove’s revision of the National Curriculum, have brought it to the point of breakdown.

Let our Kids be Kids - letthekidsbekids.wordpress.com

Let Our Kids Be Kids was launched on 26th March 2016 by a small group of Year 2 parents who’ve had enough… enough of endless testing, enough of teachers not being trusted to teach, enough of an Ofsted driven, dull, dry curriculum aimed solely at passing National Curriculum Tests (SATs). We aren’t the only ones. We found lots of other people were also very concerned.
